Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) trees grown from seed gathered from thornless trees.* Average 18 inches at one year of age.

Honey locust are native to the central U.S. (west of the Appalachian Mountains). They can reach 65 to 100 feet. Honey locust grow large thorns from their trunks and branches. Honey locust produce pods with seeds that make good livestock fodder. The seeds for these seedlings were gathered from trees bred to be thornless.*

*While seedlings grown from thornless trees are less likely to have thorns, they may still grow into thorned trees.
